Cardiologists specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases including heart and blood vessels. Whilst cardiologists do not typically carry out operations, you may be referred to, or seek to consult with a cardiologist if you experience issues with your heart or vascular system. Your GP may also refer you to a cardiologist. Cardiologists may carry out procedures such as insertion of a pacemaker, angioplasty, and heart catheterisations.
